S. that happen every year because of medical mistakes. According to the report, “the panel found that more than 7000 Americans died each year as a result of ‘medication errors,’ which included the prescribing or dispensing of the wrong drugs. For example, the panel said, pharmacists often had difficulty deciphering the illegible handwriting of doctors who prescribe drugs.”

Ina May, you are such an inspiration and it is to no wonder why so much of your work is modeled in our training as midwives. An instructor has asked me to find out why it is that you have chosen the term “yoni” for the vagina and upon trying to research this, I thought what better way than to ask the direct source!
Ina May, first I want to thank you soo much for your contributions to the world! I read your first book, Spiritual Childbirth in Holland when pregnant with my first child, 20some years ago. We moved to the US and now I want to buy it here for her as I just heard she is pregnant herself! Someone told me it is an edited/censored version here compared to the Europe/Dutch version. Is that true?

If you buy Spiritual Midwifery 4th Edition, it is a much larger book, with much more information and more stories than in the Dutch edition (which, I’m told, was a pretty bad translation, although a pretty book). The 4th Edition is an updated version of the previous 3, but it is not smaller, and it’s not censored.
Ima May – a late love-letter or thank you note: 31 years ago I gave birth at home with a lay midwife attending (b/c midwifery was illegal at that time in NC). Most of my courage for doing so came from your Spiritual Midwifery and The Birth Book (whose authors I can’t recall). I can never thank you enough for having the courage of your convictions–and for writing about them. Of all the decisions I have ever made in my life, having my daughter at home was the unequivocally right one.
